One Hall of a shock as leaders are held

From the Telegraph & Argus, first published Wednesday 23rd Jun 2004.

Back-markers Hall Park caused one of the shocks of the season by claiming a tie at leaders Bilton.

Park went into the game without a win in Division A and with only nine points to their name, yet they showed reputations counted for nothing by restricting the reigning champions to 150 for seven, Bob Hodson claiming four victims.

Bilton would have been in even deeper trouble had it not been for an undefeated 68 by Lloyd Mash.

Simon Wilson led Park's chase for runs with a half-century but the scores were tied when the visitors lost their final wicket with 3.5 overs left.

Second-placed North Leeds failed to cash in as they suffered a losing draw at Follifoot, but third-placed Beckwithshaw are now just two points behind North Leeds and four adrift of Bilton after a four-wicket win against Menston with one over to spare.

Gary Thompson was unfortunate to finish on the losing side after a fine innings of 69, but Beckwithshaw had the match-winner in Nathan Rimmington who grabbed seven wickets.

Otley took all six points at the expense of Green Lane whose defeat enabled the top three to open a sizeable gap.

Chris Cay made an undefeated 64 for Green Lane, but Otley overhauled the visitors' total of 161 for four with valuable contributions from James Davies, Matthew O'Grady and Sam Smith.

Lowly Rawdon were denied an innings by the rain at Adel after having their opponents in trouble at 86 for five, Denis Rock claiming three of the wickets to fall.

Skipton remain anchored to the foot of Division B after an eight-wicket thrashing at Tong Park.

Ian Jackson's medium pace earned him figures of four for eight in three overs as Skipton were dismissed for 53.

Nick Murden then hit an unbeaten 30 as Park took just 7.2 overs to reach their target.

Pool climbed above Illingworth with a 57-run victory over their close rivals.

John Borneman hit a half-century for Pool and Mark McEneany removed six Illingworth batsmen for 49 runs.

Thackley moved into third place with a four-wicket triumph at Silsden where Lee Margerison (53), Carl Busfield (47) and Andrew Luxton (41) were the victors' leading batsmen.

Lee Bilborough made a valiant 58 for Silsden in their first defeat since mid-May. Rain-affected draws saw the sides pick up one point each from the following matches: Ilkley v Steeton, Calverley v Collingham and Knaresborough v Burley.

Leighton Parsons struck a quickfire 76 not out for Ilkley who made 98 for three off 27 overs in reply to Steeton's 154 in 49 overs.

Number seven batsman Chris Taylor contributed an undefeated 64 in Addingham's 76-run victory at Harden in Division C.

Paul Stowell took all his 49 runs off Harden's Matthew Hogg as Addingham totalled 163 and Richard Falkingham finished with impressive figures of five for 47. Then paceman Carl Smith reduced Harden to 87 all out with a devastating seven for 49 from his 13 overs.

Horsforth are four points behind leaders Bardsey after a five-wicket win against Alwoodley at the Old Ball.

Ben Clarke (48), John Pemberton

(46) and David Main (33no) shone

with the bat after Richard Graves took four for 31 in restricting Alwoodley to 138 for six.

Ben Rhydding were on the receiving end of a losing draw at Colton despite an undefeated 90 from Ian Winterbottom.

Ties in the Waddilove Cup saw Adel, Follifoot, Bilton and Calverley progress to the semi-finals at the expense of North Leeds, Otley, Green Lane and Steeton, respectively.

Calverley face a daunting task at Bilton in the semi-finals on Sunday, July 18, while Adel have home advantage against Follifoot.
