Man, 53, accused of killing stepson

From the Telegraph & Argus, first published Saturday 24th Jul 2004.

A stepfather was refused bail yesterday when he appeared in court accused of murdering a disabled man suffering from one of the world's rarest diseases.

Frail-looking Martyn Taylor, 53, made his first appearance before Bradford magistrates, charged with the murder of his 28-year-old stepson Michael Henshaw, pictured, at their home in Greenwood Avenue, Swain House.

Mr Henshaw, who suffered from a rare condition, Gillespie Syndrome, which affects the brain and balance, was found dead in the early hours of last Tuesday morning. A post mortem revealed he died from head injuries.

Grey-haired Henshaw's solicitor, Neil Holland, applied for bail but after a 45-minute hearing the magistrates refused and remanded him in custody to appear at Bradford Crown Court on July 30.
