Soccer: Junior football round-up

Keighley Shamrocks Under-13s B came away with the points in a top of the table clash with Bingley Juniors. In a ve3ry tight game Bingley applied most of the pressure in the first half and took a 1-0 lead. Shamrocks began to find their form and Jonny Greenwood latched on to a through ball and confidently held off a defender before rounding the keeper to equalise just before the break. In the second half both teams battled hard, but the determination of the Shamrocks paid off when a cross from Jack Bilney found Adam Williams just outside the box and he neatly volleyed over the keeper. Bingley fought back in the final minutes but couldn't break through the Shamrocks defence. Chris Lynch took the manager's award for his excellent defending and Jonny Greenwood took the man of the match award.  more...

Lollypop hung up after 20 years

A LOLLIPOP lady who has helped children for two decades retired this week. Cheryl Allen has dedicated 20 years to assisting pupils of Sutton Community Primary School and was presented with a badge from North Yorkshire county highways at a special ceremony. Mrs Allen also received a portrait from year one pupils. Headteacher Fiona Beetles said: "I would like to thank Mrs Allen on behalf of all the children whom she has kept safe over the years."
