Kearney in injury setback

From the Telegraph & Argus, first published Thursday 3rd Mar 2005.

Tom Kearney has suffered another injury setback with the news that he will be ruled out for another six weeks.

The City midfielder had hoped to step up his comeback after four months on the sidelines by playing in the reserves next week.

All being well, he was pencilled in to re-join the first-team squad for the trip to Peterborough on March 12. But now he could be struggling to play again this term.

Medical tests yesterday with a specialist in Manchester showed that Kearney is still not ready after his double-hernia operation.

Colin Todd said: "It's a bitter blow for us and the lad himself after thinking he would be back and available for us next week. Now we find out he is out for at least six weeks, which takes us almost to the end of the season."

Kearney has been told he needs some strengthening work on his abductor muscles before he can attempt to play.

The 23-year-old, who signed a new contract earlier this season, last appeared in the FA Cup against Rushden in November.

Todd was today checking on Nicky Summerbee ahead of the derby clash with Huddersfield. The winger missed City's draw at Walsall with a groin strain.
