From the archive, first published Monday 4th Dec 2006.

A car crashed into a traffic island in the middle of a busy main road.

A bollard and lamp standard were flattened in the incident, in Bradford Road, Riddlesden.

The accident happened close to Morton Cemetery at around 6.45pm on Saturday.

The driver of the vehicle, a Nissan, was not thought to be seriously hurt and no one else was injured.

Firefighters were called out, with one crew from Keighley attending.

Crew manager Joe O'Keeffe said: "We were asked to attend by the police because smoke was coming from the car, but there was no fire as such. We disconnected the battery and made the vehicle safe."
