Convery leads locals home

Members from Bradford clubs finished third, fourth and fifth in their respective categories in the Abbey Dash 10k road race from Wellington Street to Leeds Town Hall via Kirkstall Abbey.

John Convery (Bingley Harriers) was the first local runner home in 48th in 32min 42sec but he was the third male over-40.

He was followed by young clubmates Aidan Johnson (53rd in 33-17) and Tim Midgley (69th in 34-00).

Mike Smith, also of Bingley, was third men's 60 in 39-56 and Sally Malir (Ilkley Harriers) was the fourth woman 40 in 40-11. Mick Mahoney (St Bede's) was fourth in the over-70 category in 50-46 and colleague Simon Forde was fifth in the over-45 category in 35-42

The race attracted a record 3,952 finishers.

Other local top-ten finishers: Antony Bradford (Spenborough, seventh men's 40 in 34-18); Nigel Bedell (Keighley & Craven, ninth men's 40 in 34-49); Mike Long (Bingley, tenth men's 55 in 41-34); Dave Barber (Bingley, eighth men's 60 in 42-49); James Parrish (Baildon, sixth men's 70 in 52-47); Alison Bennett (Ilkley, eighth women's 45 in 42-45; Jennifer Vesey (Bingley, eighth women's 50 in 46-15).
