Hill seek maiden Trophy success

Tonight sees the final of snooker's Hopkinson Plate Trophy at Undercliffe Cricket Club (7.30).

Laisterdyke WMC B will be looking to emulate their A team from 2004 by winning the trophy.

But Eccleshill WMC A are aiming to take the title back to their club for the first time in the history of the competition.

Anyone wishing to come along and watch the match will be made welcome at the Intake Road club.

There were mixed fortunes for Yorkshire's two

representative teams at the Inter-County Billiards Championship in Nuneaton.

Richard Lodge's side were on the wrong end of the result in their first match against Somerset, seeing them eliminated.

But the other competing players - Stephen Crosland, Bob Patterson, Tony Clegg and Steve Hardcastle - made it through to the semi-finals before losing to eventual winners Teesside.

In the Bradford Snooker Championships, Simon Bedford was firing on all cylinders as breaks of 103, 70 and 64 helped him to a 4-0

victory over 2002

champion Wahid Khan.

Bedford next meets Chris Metcalfe for a place in the

quarter-finals.

Defending champion Wayne Cooper faces a difficult tie in the next round against Bradford team-mate Mark Slater, who currently holds the pairs title with partner Jason Murgatroyd.

They have a home draw against Eric and John Poynton in the last 16 of that competition after a 3-0 victory over Darren Goy and Simon Jackson.
