Todd plans loan swoop

Colin Todd wants to make a double raid on the loan market.

The City boss hopes to borrow a midfielder ahead of Saturday's home clash with Bristol City.

And he also wants a striker to cover the five games Dean Windass will sit out after the weekend.

Todd cleared the way for a new addition by allowing Andy Cooke to join Darlington on loan yesterday - and the goal-shy striker scored on his debut at Peterborough.

Cooke may well have played his last game for City, with Todd admitting: "He is out of contract and I just felt he needed a new challenge. It hadn't been happening here if you look at his goal record and I can't afford to take the chance with him.

"It's fair to say that before I could get another one in I had to get people out. But I'm also looking for a midfielder because we've got Steve Schumacher suspended for Saturday.

"I've targeted some fair players and I'll be bitterly disappointed if we can't make something happen. I've been rejected on one or two but there are other irons in the fire.

"I'm waiting for phone calls, which is the most frustrating thing. It's one of my pet hates when people do not return calls but I'll be chasing them up."

Todd was delighted with City's efforts in last night's 1-1 draw at high-flying Swansea. David Wetherall's second-half header deservedly cancelled out a goal right on half-time from Leon Knight.

Todd said: "I thought we shaded it at times. The infuriating thing is that we should retain the ball better and not give the ball away when we aren't under pressure.

"It was hard to accept that we were one down at half-time having played so well but I always felt we would get something out of the game.

"We've got a side that will always defend well and we've just got to take our chances.

"But we've all performed to the best of our abilities and shown people we are a fair side.

"Saturday was disappointing for everyone and the two points we dropped from conceding that late goal against Swindon have cost us. But we haven't dwelt on that and we deserved to get a result."
