Opportunities presented by the multi-million pound project to close the economic gap between the north and the south will be discussed during a public meeting.

The discussion will focus on how the region can attract extra investment through the Northern Way, which is an initiative aimed at increasing economic growth in the north.

A public Question Time' session will be as part of the Yorkshire and Humber Assembly's scrutiny review.

Organisations and individuals from across Yorkshire have been invited to give their views during the event at Cathedral Hall, Leeds, on Wednesday February 22.

Nic Dakin, deputy chairman of Yorkshire Forward and chairman of the Yorkshire Forward scrutiny panel, said: "As Yorkshire Forward has the strategic lead on transport and marketing the North, we welcome this inquiry into how The Northern Way can provide significant opportunities for our region.

"I am certain that positive things will come out of Wednesday's event that will help Yorkshire perform even better."

The discussion is part of the Assembly's new approach to its scrutiny role, led by its deputy chair Paul Jagger, which will see a standing group looking at how the region's economy is faring.

The Northern Way is a collaborative project between the three northern Regional Development Agencies Yorkshire Forward, ONE NorthEast and the Northwest Development Agency to bridge the £29 billion output gap with the South.
