Moorhouse magic key for White Star

Carlo Moorhouse ensured a Division One representation in the semi-finals of the Bradford & District FA Senior Cup as his goal earned a 1-0 win for Buttershaw White Star at home to Crown Wyke.

Division 1B leaders Crown gave a good account of themselves but Moorhouse, who had engineered two good chances for his fellow forwards in the first half, showed his poaching qualities to bag the decider.

Lee Bialek knocked the ball down in a packed goalmouth on 60 minutes and Moorhouse did the rest.

There were no surprises in the other two quarter-finals to take place, with Premier Division rivals Oakenshaw and Fairweather Green still to play their tie.

Division 1A high-fliers Ventus Sports matched Premier opponents Bolton Woods for long periods but were eventually undone by Andy Howland.

He took advantage of a poor clearance to round the keeper on 15 minutes and added a second five minutes from time in Woods' 2-0 success.

The other Premier outfit to advance was Whetley Lane, who had to stave off a Wibsey WMC comeback from 3-0 down before winning 4-2 thanks in the main to Paul Noble's double.

Semi-final draw: Buttershaw WS v Whetley Lane, Bolton Woods v Oakenshaw or Fairweather Green.

In the Bradford & District FA Sunday Cup, Holme Wood needed a penalty shoot-out to reach the last four at the expense of Old King's Head.

The sides were locked at 0-0 going into extra-time, when OKH twice edged in front through Ben Omelia and Miquel Birkett only to then miss out

3-2 in the spot-kick showdown.

Division Four side Prospect had a tough away fixture at Division 2B high-fliers Tyersal but defied the odds to win 1-0 thanks to a Steve Durkin strike.

Meanwhile, the slump that saw Albion Sports make three successive cup exits has transferred to the Premier Division.

Their latest setback was at home to Jekyll and Hyde side Queensbury,

who won 2-0 as youngsters Nathan Hargreaves and Neil Jones shared the goals which lifted their side out of the drop zone.

Queensbury's win means that Crown, who gained a commendable 1-1 draw with second-placed West Bowling, are relegated with only three games left.

Crown went in front on five minutes through a Graham Gilderdale penalty. Bowling's equaliser, which leaves them two points behind Albion Sports, was courtesy of Damien Melvin.

Queensbury's win was also bad news for Wyke Wanderers, who replaced them in the bottom two after Holme Wood Athletic ground out a 1-0 verdict.

Dudley Hill Rangers' chances of promotion from Division One now look remote after losing 1-0 to a Des Rouse free-kick at Ring O' Bells Shipley.

With leaders Bradford Park Avenue Rangers' game against Eccleshill postponed, it meant Bells moved top.

Lee Dane saved a twice-taken penalty by different players as Eccleshill United Sunday came through a sticky Division 1A game at George Hotel 2-1 to keep their promotion hopes alive. Andy Philp scored the winner.

After 15 games without a victory, Quarry have now won two on the bounce, although their late revival might not save them from relegation.

Their latest success was 4-3 against Oddfellows Athletic, Johnny Lonsdale scoring twice supported by Mick Burrows and a Mark Callagon penalty.

Adam Hussain delivered a hat-trick for leaders Bishop Rovers as they saw off QCs 4-2.

Justin Steelcoal's strike was enough to give Hudsons all three points at Clayton Orient, while the Queensbury Reserves v White Horse game was a victim of the whether.

Craven Heifer took the lead against Wibsey WMC Reserves but conceded three times in 15 minutes to end up 3-2 losers in Division 1B.

Leading scorer Steve Cyzyewski scored twice for Wibsey, while Craven's goals came from former Fairweather Green pair Paul Mitchell and Danny Fawthorpe.

Dudley Hill Rangers Reserves eased their relegation worries with a 4-1 win against Saltaire Rangers.

Waggoners, who were bottom of the section, have resigned from the league.
