From the archive, first published Friday 3rd Feb 2006.

Cubs Under-17s 22 Siddal 28 - TIM Bibby signed off for the Cubs in the Under-17 cup clash before starting with Huddersfield Giants.

He scored two fine individual tries, one a three-quarters of the field solo effort, but it as not enough to save the Cubs from a cup defeat.

The ever-improving Lee Dean also crossed the whitewash and there was a first class try from Chris Thomspon. There was a superb score from Tom Hall and three goals from Joe Mitchell and Ben Carley was also outstanding.

Cougar Cubs Under-15s 52

West Craven Warriors 0

This game went as expected the league leaders outclassing the visitors from the foot of the table.

West Craven showed plenty of spirit and put in plenty of effort right up to the final whistle but never really looked like scoring. The Cubs threw the ball around with great flair. Howson was first to cross the white wash, soon by Bolton. Replacement Burton burst clear 30 metres out with his first touch to score under the posts, skipper Kelly taking over kicking duties landing the goal. Three minutes later Cawood finished off another well worked move and just before the break Ireland crashed over making it 24-0 at half time.

Second half tries came from Chapman, Haythornthwaite, Carlos, Burton and Cawood, who also kicked two conversions. Burton completed the scoring with his hat-trick on the last play of the game.

Cubs Under-14s 12

Siddal 4

Siddal were unbeaten in the league for two years, but the Cubs came out on top.

A try by Jake Waddington which was converted by Richard Veazey.

In the second half Jake Waddington forced himself over for another try and a conversion put the Cubs in the driving seat. Siddal came back and forced a try in the corner, but it was only a token effort.

The Cubs put on an impressive team performance, but special mention goes to winger Robert Heald who despite his inexperience tackled hard and ran the ball back at the Siddal defence strongly.

Queensbury Under 13's 8

Cougar Cubs 24

The Under-13s produced their best performance of the season against a strong Queensbury team.

The Cubs gave no quarter as they were led by some tenacious tackling stints by Joshs' Lynam and Ives. After several minutes of end to end Rugby the Cubs thought they had scored after some strong running by Martyn Broadley but he was harshly judged to have been held up over the line. Luke Chapman in his first game for the Cubs linked up well with Broadley to steady the right wing and should prove in quick time to be an invaluable addition to the squad. Ben Steads kick through and excellent chase by the speedy Jamie Pickles opened up the scoring. Power plays by forwards Wasim Shabir and the improving Jason Smith provided the cougars with territorial advantage. Aaron Tattersall Jarvis and Jake Dunn terrorised the Queensbury defence with pounding drives and tough tackling, but it was Stead again who set up the Cubs second try with a perfectly placed cross field kick that Jamie Pickles collected on the full for an impressive second try.

Joe Palmer was outstanding at full back in both the collection of high balls and with textbook one on one tackles. Queensbury then threw the ball out wide to squeeze in, in the corner. Some fine approach play by Chris Spencer and Broadley set up the try of the half with Ben Stead kicking over the defence and following up to score under the post to take the score to 4 points to 14 at half time.

The second half was a more physical affair with both teams working hard to make yardage. Again and again Broadley and Shabir broke through the line, only to be tackled by a throng of Queensbury players, the Cubs matched them tackle for tackle with Josh Ives's work rate from marker helping to pen Queensbury in their own half. The Cubs next score came from an alert Jordan Aitchison picking up a loose ball to scoot in for a try that made the result safe.

Queensbury however never gave up and claimed a second try with five minutes to go. Man of the match Martyn Broadley was not finished however and chased an attacking kick through ripped the ball out of the Queensbury players hands and dropped over the line to finish the game off.

Cubs Under 11's v Greetland

As their confidence has grown over the last few weeks, the under 11's capitalised on their recent performances and played an excellent team game.

Good distances made by the forwards, notably Adam Robinson, Devan King, Sam Ward and Joe Buffey, opened up the field for others. Strong support by Ryan Ambler and Jack Winterburn, receiving the ball created space for the backs. Keighley's defence was equally solid, pushing Greetland wide, allowing the Cougars to force them repeatedly into touch.

Tries by Jerome James, Tom Gooding, Jack Winterburn and David Meyrick (2) and an excellent run by Joe Buckley (following a well fed dummy) clearly showed the strength of the team.

Top tackler was Devan King for consistent hard work, coaches award went to Jerome James for the strength of his runs, the outstanding moment went to David Meyrick for yardage made from his line and Man of the Match went to Charlotte Roberts for dealing with their key player and containing his strong defensive work at the play of the ball.

Queens Knights v

Cubs Under 10's

The Cubs put in a good performance against a powerful Queens side, the home team started the scoring and stayed in front for the first quarter with the Cubs edging it at half time. Some great runs from both sides with neither team staying in front for long, both teams finishing with 8 tries apiece, the home side edging it by just 2 points. Hat tricks for Kyle Akrigg (Outstanding Effort) and Dan Connell (Top Tackler), with Alfie Seeley and Ben Dixon completing the scoring for the Cubs. Man of the Match was picked up by Arron Moorby for his ground breaking runs.

Other score: Under16 Millford 0, Cubs 14.
