Pride and Prejudice

Girl meets boy, girl hates boy, boy despises girl, they fall in love despite themselves. Elizabeth and Darcy in a nutshell.

Let's not forget her ridiculous family, his conceit, her sister's love affair, his meddling, the dastardly Wickham and a rich host of supporting characters.

It was enough to fill six glorious episodes on TV, but equally suited to this wonderful two-hour version (even if some fans find it rushed).

Kiera Knightley is bewitching as Elizabeth -- easily as believable as TV's Jennifer Ehle -- and Spooks' Tom McFadyen is strong enough for Darcy.

Whether you normally love or loathe costume dramas, there's lots to enjoy in this witty, gorgeous, edge-of-your seat romance.
