Safety training offered to firms

From the archive, first published Thursday 9th Feb 2006.

Medical training taught by experts will be offered to companies across the district in a bid to boost health and safety in the workplace.

Staff from paramedic, fire, police and accident and emergency service backgrounds were brought together to teach by firefighter Dave Smith, pictured with the team.

The team will provide a range of medical training, including health and safety and accredited first aid in the workplace.

Courses designed to suit individual risk assessment needs will also be on offer.

Staff were chosen for their operational experience, qualifications and teaching ability.

Mr Smith said: "All our staff have been there, seen it and done it and not just read it in a text book.

"They understand better than anybody the importance of basic first aid and they communicate this effectively through a common sense approach to teaching."

Training will take place at the First Response Team training room at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds, or at clients' offices.

Course details can be found at www.firstresponseteam.co. uk.
