Businesses fail to prepare for worst

From the archive, first published Tuesday 20th Mar 2007.

Many business in Yorkshire admit they are failing to prepare for disruption.

The claim comes in a report published by the Chartered Management Institute. It shows organisations in Yorkshire to be paying lip service to the importance of planning for disaster, but failing to make business resilience a reality.

For example the research showed that one in four organisations in Yorkshire were affected by extreme weather conditions in 2006.

One in five managers in Yorkshire said their organisation's productivity had suffered due to a loss of skills over the past year and 38 per cent focused on the impact caused by loss of people, the highest proportion since the question was first asked in 2003.
