Crossing plea

From the archive, first published Friday 23rd Mar 2007.

Parents of students at Otley Prince Henry's Grammar School are being lobbied to support calls for a pedestrian crossing.

The school says a large proportion of its students cross busy Farnley Lane twice every day during the week, often putting their safety at risk.

Acting headteacher John Dean says because there is no crossing, students cross in groups to force motorists to stop.

In a letter to parents calling for support, he says it is potentially a very dangerous situation.

He is asking for parents to respond by Monday (March 26) and plans to make a deputation to a full meeting of Leeds City Council.
