Path gets a Clean Sweep

From the archive, first published Friday 23rd Mar 2007.

Work is due to start on Saturday to clear mountains of rubbish from a pathway alongside a city farm.

As part of the Clean Sweep, Bradford Council's Environmental Task Force will be working on a heavily fly-tipped path next to Bradford City Farm, off Dalton Terrace, in the Whetley Hill area.

The footpath is impassable because of a huge build-up of rubbish and it is likely to take several weeks to clear.

The task force will be working with the Probation Service to clear this land on weekends throughout March and April.

After the clean-up, Bradford Community Environment Project will landscape the site and look at ways of preventing further dumping in the area.

The Clean Sweep was officially launched last week and follows on from the Big Sweep campaign last year.

Further action is planned in Holme Wood in April and other areas of Bradford, Shipley and Keighley in the next few months.

The task force works with residents, other council departments, ward councillors, voluntary agencies, faith and school groups, Bradford Community Housing Trust and the police to make environmental improvements to the areas of the district that need it most.
