Hunt for long-lost mother

From the archive, first published Friday 23rd Mar 2007.

A brother and sister now living in Canada are desperately trying to trace their long-lost mother who they believe could still be living in Bradford.

Hayley Griffin, 28, and her brother, Darren Lee Grey, 30, have not seen their mother Marie for more than 20 years as they were taken to Canada by their father following the break-up of his marriage.

Their mother, whose maiden name is Digney, was last known to live in Oswaldthorpe Avenue, Laisterdyke.

Both Hayley and Darren, who live in Calgary, Alberta, are now married with children of their own and want their mother to know she is a grandmother.

Hayley said: "I am married and have a little boy of my own and am expecting my second baby in eight weeks' time, so it would be wonderful to if we could find our mum and have some of the blanks filled in.

"Darren has three daughters too and his wife is also expecting so Marie is a grandmother to four children."

Hayley and Darren moved to Bradford from Germany with their mother after she separated from their father Edward.

Not long after that their father was given custody of Darren and then got joint custody of her and she went to live with him.

She said: "I was brought to Canada by my father when I was 14 in August 1993 but I haven't spoken to or seen my mother, Marie since I was eight. I have been trying to find her for the last nine years.

Darren said his maternal grandmother was called Dorothy and lived in Mond Avenue, Laisterdyke, with her husband.

Hayley added: "Maybe some Telegraph & Argus readers know my mother or maybe she is still in Bradford and might see this story. It would be wonderful if after 20 years I could meet the woman who gave birth to me."

Anyone who has any information about Marie can contact Paddy McGuffin at the T&A on (01274) 705423.
