Rail services change

From the archive, first published Friday 23rd Mar 2007.

Rail passengers are being warned to expect temporary alterations to train services in part of the district next month.

Engineering work will take place each Sunday in April between Leeds and Shipley.

As a result, Northern Rail has announced that it will have to make some alterations to services.

For passengers travelling to and from Leeds, a connecting bus service will run between Leeds and Shipley.

Passengers are advised to check with Northern customer relations on 0845 0000125 or National Rail Enquiries on 08457 484950 before travelling because buses will leave Leeds earlier than the normal train times to connect with trains at Shipley.

During this period, passengers travelling from Bradford Forster Square will benefit from direct connections to stations along the routes to Settle, Carlisle and Morecambe.

Drew Haley, client and stakeholder manager for Northern Rail, said: "For the first time since the 1960s passengers will be able to travel directly from Bradford along this historic rail line, taking advantage of this service to visit some of the finest scenery in England with fantastic walking country and wonderful and interesting towns and villages too."

Northern Rail said it would not be able to carry prams, pushchairs, bicycles or wheelchairs, which do not fold up, on the bus services.

The company apologised for any inconvenience caused by the alterations.
