Second phase for facelift

From the archive, first published Wednesday 28th Mar 2007.

The facelift of Cleckheaton town centre will soon be moving into its second phase with 12 weeks of work due to start on April 16.

The permanent stalls on Market Place will be replaced by temporary ones to be put up on market days.

Kirklees Council's improvement programme will also include a new block-paved access road, lights, seats and litter bins.

The Market Place scheme, linking with the Albion Street improvements, is designed to be attractive and welcoming for visitors.

Councillor Martyn Bolt said: "I am pleased we are completing yet another highways scheme in North Kirklees.

"This will complement the Albion Street Precinct improvements and make the town centre a nicer place for everyone to use."
