Vandals are urged to pay respect

From the archive, first published Wednesday 28th Mar 2007.

Broughton Road residents in Skipton are urging vandals not to sabotage a well-loved and popular local building.

Vandals completely knocked down a wall at the community centre overnight last week resulting in a £150 repair bill.

St Andrew's Methodist Church owns the building but a committee of local residents run it.

Committee member Christine Johnson said: "It's disgusting and it needs stopping."

She said the building needed treating with respect as the local community would be lost without it.

The building is over 100 years old and was originally called The Old Tabernacle.

The repairs to the wall have now been made.
