Perfect ten earns Tog league title

From the archive, first published Wednesday 28th Mar 2007.

The final week of the Bradford Table Tennis League season saw the Division One title claimed in emphatic if surprising fashion by Dewsbury Tog.

The top two teams in Division One met at Heckmondwike, with leaders Police looking for a

positive result to stay ahead of Dewsbury Tog. But the home side's trio of Richard Lightowler, Tony Bottomley and Darren Page were in top form as they demolished their visitors 10-0 to take the title by nine points.

In Division Two, Thornbury A required a similar result at home to Unity B to pip Embassy to the title. Without their number one player Ian Marshall, that seemed a tall order but Mann Younis, Nick Burton and Neil Hurford rose to the occasion to record a 10-0

victory. That left Thornbury and Embassy both on 192 points, with Thornbury clinching the title by just four sets.

Other winners were: Division Three: Hermits C; Division Four: Fast Bats E; Division Five: Baildon A; Division Six: Hermits K.
