A man suffered burns when fire ravaged his Bradford home shortly after midnight today.
Firefighters smashed down the front door of the house in Ewart Place, Great Horton, to tackle the severe blaze and search for anyone trapped inside.
Odsal Fire Station watch manager Charlie Coates said a man in his 40s managed to escape the blaze from the back of the house.
He was taken by ambulance to Bradford Royal Infirmary suffering from burns and smoke inhalation.
Mr Coates said four firefighters broke into the house and entered wearing breathing apparatus.
Two fought the fire in the living room while the others searched for anyone still in the property.
"It was a very serious fire. The flames were visible from outside. They entered at great risk to themselves," said Mr Coates.
He said the male occupant was the only person in the building.
There was extensive damage to the ground floor and the building was smoke-logged.
The cause of the blaze was today being investigated.
