Older people with dementia took part, along with their families, in a competition to make "memory boxes."

The aim was to provide a memory and senses experience for those in the care of Kirklees Adult Services.

Care home and day care staff, residents, service users and their families all accepted the challenge.

The themes chosen for the boxes including weddings, hobbies, who we are items and other items such as sweets and games from bygone times.

Winners included Claremont and Castle Grange, who won £250 each to spend on their unit. Day Care at Knowle Park and The Homestead also won £150 each.

Judging the boxes were councillor Margaret Bates, Kirklees Cabinet member for adult services, Mark Greaves, head of adult services and Jane Sharkley, divisional manager for Residential and Day Care.
