A 56-year-old Harley Davidson biker has had his body waxed to raise money for charity.

Kev Whelan, of Carr Hill Avenue, Calverley, raised nearly £1,000 for the special baby care unit at Bradford Royal Infirmary when he had his body hair waxed off for charity.

Mr Whelan, who is the Yorkshire representative for the Harley Davidson Riders Club of Great Britain. He decided to raise money for the baby unit, after they helped his two grandchildren.

Three years ago his grandson Joshua was born prematurely and was in BRI for 12 weeks. Then a year later his granddaughter Evie was admitted to the unit because she had a metabolic imbalance.

He said: "I thought by raising money for them, it would be my way of saying thank you."

Two other bikers from the White Rose Motor Cycle Club, Nigel Howard and Paulo Freemantle, joined Mr Whelan in the waxing session.

"I'm a very hairy, well I was a very hairy man and it was quite painful in different areas. I might do it again, if it's for a good cause," said Mr Whelan.
