Call to sign Safer Roads Day pledge

From the archive, first published Monday 16th Apr 2007.

People in the Bradford district were today urged to become road safety world-beaters.

A call has gone out for 10,000 West Yorkshire residents to sign a pledge for Safer Roads Day on May 1 - and bid for a place in the Guinness Book of Records.

Last year, the Safety in Numbers project, from West Yorkshire Casualty Reduction Partnership, attracted more than 7,400 signatures.

This year, if 10,000 or more people sign up, the achievement may be considered the world's largest community road safety initiative.

In August last year, the Telegraph & Argus began a campaign to urge drivers to take more care and cut the high number of road deaths and injuries on the county's roads.
