Pedestrian hit by car

From the archive, first published Monday 16th Apr 2007.

A male pedestrian suffered a serious shoulder injury when he was in an accident with a car in Manchester Road, Bradford, last night.

The man, who has not been identified, is believed to have stepped in front of the Hyundai Accent car near the Shell petrol station at 6.40pm.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary. Both lanes of the carriageway were closed for several hours while police dealt with the incident.

Inspector Peter Lobb, of West Yorkshire police, said: "By the look of it, the pedestrian jumped over railings in the middle of the road and appeared straight in front of the car, not giving much time for the driver to avoid him. It looks like it was just an accident."
