From the archive, first published Wednesday 18th Apr 2007.

A man's estranged wife tipped off police when she saw him riding a motorcycle after drinking.

David Frederick Balmforth went to visit his former partner on March 29 but was breathalysed after she told police he had been drinking.

The 53-year-old, of Claymore Rise, Silsden, gave a reading of more than twice the legal limit at 86 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The court was told he had been suffering from depression.

The defendant, a shift engineer at Airedale Hospital, pleaded guilty to drink-driving.

He was banned from the road for 21 months and fined £300 with £43 costs.
