Young stars shine at awards night

South Bradford School Sports Partnership celebrated their wider role in the community with their own version of BBC TV's Sports Personality of the Year Awards.

The partnership's second sports and performing arts presentation night was held at Tong Sports College, attracting 150 people.

Claire Myers, partnership development manager for South Bradford, said: "The evening went really, really well.

"It was all videod and two students were doing the compering, while the performing arts staff and the sports staff were reading out the nominations. Students were also in charge of the lighting and we tried to make it as much like the BBC awards as we could.

"It went better than last year and we also had people performing between the awards, such as Jessica Feather (Community Gymnast of the Year), the GCSE dance group and the A-level group doing physical theatre."

The Performer of the Year award went to Judy Edwards, and sponsors for the evening included Shimlas Restaurant, Richard Dunn Sports Centre, Techogym, Aquaid, Bradford City Football Club and Sport Bulk Suppliers.

They all either donated gift vouchers for the award winners and nominees or provided food for the evening.
