Partner sought as performer dies

Police, investigating the death of a pensioner at his home, are trying to trace a Keighley man who performed with him in a cabaret act 40 years ago.

Alexander James Ash, left, known as James, 74, died from smoke inhalation at his home in Lincolnshire, last month.

Police are anxious to build up a picture of Mr Ash's life and are keen to contact his former cabaret partner, Ron Martin.

The pair performed at venues across the North, and possibly in London, in the 60s.

Mr Ash had lived in the Boston area for at least 20 years. He was a keep fit fanatic and worked out at local gyms.

A police spokesman said: "Mr Ash was a theatrical, flamboyant individual who we understand performed as part of a cabaret act during the 60s.

"In order to map out his life, we are appealing to his work partner, Ron Martin, who is thought to be living in the Keighley area, to contact us.

"Whatever the information is, or however trivial you think it might be, if you knew Mr Ash we would also urge you to call. Anyone with information should call (01522) 532222, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
