Police hunt car

From the archive, first published Friday 6th Apr 2007.

Police are trying to trace a distinctive high-powered car used in an attempted burglary at a Denholme supermarket yesterday.

The electric-blue Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, which has a rear spoiler and six-spoke alloy wheels, was used in an attempted raid at the Co-op, in George Street, at around 1.36am.

The same car was then used at 1.45am in an attempted burglary at Tesco, in Halifax Road, Buttershaw, Bradford, and in an incident a few minutes later at a Tesco petrol station in Great Horton, when five masked men broke in and stole a large quantity of cigarettes.

It is thought the vehicle was also used in an attempted burglary at Londis Stores in Liversedge on Sunday and in an attempted break-in at a Co-op petrol station in Cleckheaton on Wednesday.

Officers are appealing for anyone with information about the vehicle to get in touch.

It is believed the car may have been stolen from the Leeds area at the end of last month.

Anyone able to help can contact Bradford North CID on 01274 376259 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
