Survey finds salt warning

Bacon butty lovers across the district could be biting in to more than they bargained for, health chiefs have warned.

Shocking results reveal that just one bacon or sausage sandwich bought from a lay-by van or café could contain the consumer's recommended amount of salt intake for the whole day. With up to 4.7 grammes of salt being found in just one sandwich, West Yorkshire Trading Standards Service are calling on businesses to serve up less salty bacon, sausage and bread.

Councillor Malcolm Slater, chairman of the Trading Standards Committee, said: "Those with high blood pressure in particular need to think twice about eating salty food. This survey will help those consumers identify which foods to avoid."
