Man attacked former partner in row

From the archive, first published Tuesday 12th Feb 2008.

A man attacked his former partner when a row blew up after he saw her earlier in the evening in a pub in Silsden.

Daniel Keenan, of Longbottom Avenue, Silsden, pleaded guilty at Bingley court to assaulting Claire Anderson at a house in New Close Avenue, in the town. Magistrates were told that when she arrived home later in the evening of February 2, Keenan was there.

He made unpleasant remarks, pushed her over a settee, grabbed her hair and butted her on the forehead. He shouted that he wanted her to tell their two children he loved them.

Keenan was arrested and admitted he had gone "crazy" and had pushed her to the floor. He denied headbutting her.

Glen Chivers, for Keenan, said the couple were still not together, but their relationship was now "civilised". During the row, his former partner had given as good as she got, he added.

The bench adjourned the case and ordered a pre-sentence report.
