A Bradford charity has been awarded a grant of nearly £10,000 to help people with learning disabilities.

Bradford People First runs a project for people with learning disabilities and is researching a project into setting up a much-needed drop-in and information centre. It is one of seven Bradford charities and community groups which have benefited from £601,401 in grants distributed under the Lottery's Awards for All programme.

The cash will help Bradford People First research other sources of funding, commissioning and partnership work.

Other grants made this month in the region include £3,105 to Cleckheaton Folk to extend its reach into smaller venues such as local pubs and cafes, and £8,581 to counselling service Relate Bradford.

Awards for All is the small grants scheme administered by the Big Lottery Fund .

The scheme makes awards of between £300 and £10,000 to grass roots community groups and voluntary organisations.

Vanessa White, Big Lottery Fund Head of Region for Yorkshire and the Humber, said: "This year has got off to a great start for community groups with over £600,000 in grants being distributed by Awards for All in Yorkshire and the Humber. We are proud to be able to help groups keep up their wonderful work."
