Driver was tempted to drink

From the archive, first published Tuesday 12th Feb 2008.

The temptation to go for a drink after having not eaten all day at work, led to a recruitment officer crashing her car, magistrates heard.

Jennifer Green, of Temperance Mews, Glusburn, near Skipton, crashed into a parked vehicle as she tried to clear a frosted windscreen.

Green, 22, admitted drink driving in Station Road, Steeton, on February 1, when she was driving home after returning to the village by train.

Bingley magistrates banned her from driving for 16 months, fined her £100, ordered her to pay £60 in costs and £15 victim surcharge.

The bench was told that she was arrested by police and spent a night in the cells before she was released in the early hours.

John Mewies for Green, said she had gone out with colleagues in Leeds after work and after consuming soft drinks was tempted to have one or two glasses of wine. When she reached Steeton to pick up her car, she thought she was fit to drive.
