Plaques mark history

From the archive, first published Saturday 23rd Feb 2008.

The addition of a Hollywood-style Walk of Fame has added a touch of glamour to a park.

Kirklees Council is working with Spen Valley Civic Society to create the path in Green Park, Heckmondwike.

The park already has the Spen Fame Trail, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, and the Crown of Lights feature.

Society officer Donal O'Driscoll said: "We're delighted that Kirklees continues to support us in this project.

"They've already installed 41 plaques in the pavements all around the valley. We decided that the best location for these six would be in Green Park."

Mr O'Driscoll said the plaques celebrate a variety of people including a hangman, a ratcatcher and Arthur Wood, who composed the music used for BBC Radio 4's The Archers.

The next meeting takes place at Healds Hall Hotel in Liversedge on Thursday, March 13, at 7.30pm. Call (01274) 870072 or log on to svcs.org.uk
