Just the ticket!

Tickets can still be snapped up for an awards ceremony recognising the achievements of young people in the district.

The Telegraph & Argus-backed Young Citizen Awards, held on Wednesday at St George's Hall, promises to be a star-studded evening with a host of celebrities from television, radio and sport appearing.

But the spotlight will be turned on some of the unsung young heroes in the community.

Host Jo Jo said: "Awards like this are a great opportunity for young people to be recognised for the contributions they make to society.''

The Galaxy DJ added: "Not all young people are behaving badly and we need to give credit where credit's due. I hope it's going to be a great night for all and that it inspires others to reach and achieve their goals."

The awards, organised by Bradford Council's Youth Service, will be presented by celebrities including Bradford Bulls pair Joe Vagana and Glenn Morrison, BBC Look North's Christa Ackroyd, boxing champion Femi Fehintola and street magician Dynamo, who will also be performing at the ceremony.

People from across the district nominated children, young people or groups for the various categories, which reflect the Government's Every Child Matters agenda.

Councillor Colin Gill, Bradford Council's executive member for services for children, said: "It promises to be an exciting and inspiring evening with a wide-range of talented young performers entertaining the audience, an array of sports and TV stars and dignitaries presenting the awards, and, of course, the young people and children themselves who have overcome challenges to go on to achieve great things."

The awards start at 7pm and free tickets can be picked up at the Youth Service Headquarters in City Road, by calling Asma Shaheen on (01274) 433714, or by e-mailing asma.shaheen@bradford.gov.uk.
