Gem of an idea for charity ball

From the archive, first published Saturday 23rd Feb 2008.

A gift from an Ilkley business will be the jewel in the crown of a cancer charity's glittering fundraising ball.

Marie Curie Cancer Care will hold its Diamond and Daffodils Ball at the Cedar Court Hotel, Bradford, on Saturday in aid of its Bradford hospice.

Guests will be in with the chance of winning a £500 diamond, given by jeweller Ashworth and Tennant, of The Moors Shopping Centre in Ilkley.

Ashworth and Tennant has donated scores of glittering cubic zirconia to the event, as well as the diamond.

This year's ball is sponsored by Bradford & Bingley and Sovereign Health Care. It starts with a reception, followed by a three-course dinner and dancing to the music of guest band, King Pleasure & the Biscuit Boys.

Tickets can be obtained from Brenda Doyle at the Marie Curie hospice on (01274) 337036.
